Psychotherapy delivered online and in person in St.Albans
Taking the first step in seeking help when life is becoming overwhelming can be daunting.
I am a fully qualified psychotherapist and level 7 counsellor (BACP registered), offering a caring and safe space to help you heal and recover, when life feels this way.
Over many years I have worked with clients with addictions, relationship problems, midlife crisis', low self-esteem, compulsive people pleasing (co-dependency) and depression amongst many other issues, who over time have made tremendous improvements. My approach to therapy is non-judgemental, empathic and most of all friendly, helping you to explore and heal wounds from past and current issues.
Are we the product of our circumstances, or our decisions?
I provide a completely confidential empathic space to explore whatever is troubling you.
I have a special interest and experience in working with all addictions including alcohol, drugs, gambling, shopping, eating disorders and sex addictions, along with co-dependency (compulsive people pleasing).
Other areas I specialise in are relationship issues, low self-esteem, depression, bipolar, various anxiety problems and anger management.
Whatever is causing you to feel ill at ease we can work together, calming the headwinds, even maybe finding opportunities in what appear to be difficulties. These issues may be long standing, or acute life events such as divorce, bereavement or redundancy amongst others. Things from our childhood often sit behind adult problems, together we can gently explore them, working towards healing old wounds.
Addictions: No one sets out in life to be an addict. It may seem daunting, but when what once was a crutch becomes an iron ball chained to your ankle, it may be time to face upto it, and, in time, work towards freeing yourself. I have spent several years giving one to one therapy working for a large charity that helps those with any addiction, and also spent many years at a well respected day rehabilitation center where I became the counselling deputy manager.
Relationship issues bring many people to therapy. Maybe you cannot agree on anything with your partner and are constantly bickering and arguing, or there has been a break down in trust between you. Together we will identify and clarify the problems you are facing in your relationship, and then work towards a new way forward. I can work with you alone, or with your partner.

"I started seeing Derrick online during the 2020 pandemic and I believe it's the best decision I've made for myself. He's an amazing therapist who not only listens but responds in a kind, understanding and not judgemental way. I can't imagine where I would have been without his help."
